AS/NZS 3012 construction schedule

How often should equipment be tested?

AS/NZS 3012:2019 applies to electrical installations and equipment used on construction and demolition sites. The intervals below summarise its periodic verification schedule. They are maximum intervals, and a site risk assessment or regulator may require more frequent checks.

Important: New equipment must be checked for obvious damage before first use. Equipment must also be inspected and tested before returning to service after repair or servicing that could affect electrical safety. Failed or damaged equipment must be removed from service and dealt with under the site safety process.

This table is a plain English summary, not a substitute for reading AS/NZS 3012:2019 in full or obtaining advice for a particular site. For workplaces outside construction and demolition, testing intervals are determined under the applicable requirements, including AS/NZS 3760:2022.
